On the recommendation by a fellow UGA student, Mohr started working in the glitzy industry when she was 24. She competed in Miss Columbus 1985. Miss Columbus 1985 and won the crown, kissing the crown and defeating the other contestants. A result of this victory, Miss Georgia 1985 was entitled to enter her for the pageant. Additionally, on the weekend of June 22nd, 1985 she was the winner of the competition. Mohr was then invited in September of 1985 to be a part of Georgia in Miss America 1986, a pageant which was staged at Atlantic City, New Jersey. However, she was not an official Top 10 finalist for the national title.
