Rauw Alejandro
Despacito is a 2017 song made by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It became the top popular streamed song in the world within 6 months. This mix of reggaeton and pop music has not only brought interest back to this genre but also to Latin music as a whole. In 2015 there were only two mostly songs with Spanish lyrics on the Billboard Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. At the peak of Despacito's popularity, however 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it into the Top 100 as well, and by 2020 there were 41 of them. Justin Bieber's bilingual remix Despacito was released in the year. Then, numerous famous artists began collaborating with reggaeton artists. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny to create MIA (2018) as well as Madonna collaborated with Maluma in the creation of Medellin. In the year 2020, some Reggaeton musicians were complaining about the advancing of the genre towards the mainstream. But a newer generation such as Rauw Alejandro was determined to continue the evolution. The incorporation of elements from electronic dance music and various other genres was a typical practice.
